The books I read when I started Venture Capital investing

When I started venture investing I looked for books to help me understand the terms, frameworks and structures. Recently as new investors have been entering the Australian ecosystem I’ve been asked for recommended resources, so I’m sharing what I read when I started out.

The Hard Thing About Hard Things by Ben Horowitz

For startup founders I’d recommend reading this book every 6 months for the first couple of years from the inception of your startup and thereafter annually for the next 5 years. So many insights along the different growth stages and you pick up a new perspective each time.

For investors often your portfolio companies are at different stages so I’d often turn the page and recognise what to be aware or look out for around the corner.

Here’s my favourite quote: “Without trust, communication breaks. More specifically: In any human interaction, the required amount of communication is inversely proportional to the level of trust.”
