Immersing yourself into the Australian startup ecosystem

Lately I’ve been approached by those thinking about getting involved in the startup ecosystem in Australia or about reconnecting with the ecosystem after some time away.

I noticed some natural categories based on how people were asking how they would like to get up to speed eg. what newsletters to subscribe to and/or a preference to attend events.

I’ve outlined lists by category of ecosystem partners, event calendars, newsletters, podcasts and resources. Not exhaustive, but it’s a start for anyone thinking about beginning their journey and from here you can choose and map your own pathway of interest.

ECOSYSTEM PARTNERS

  • Australian and NZ accelerators — This is a list by Startmate and outlines all the accelerators in the Australian and NZ ecosystems. It highlights which programs are active and also what has historically been operational.
  • Australian investors — This list by Cut Through Ventures outlines a number of investors in the ecosystem. It provides a little summary about who they are, their sectors of interest and also stages they typically invest in. This doesn’t cover everyone, but a comprehensive list of active investors.
  • Hubs and communities — Fishburners, Harbour City Labs (Sydney), Lot Fourteen
