I’ve noticed a material uplift this year in the number of requests I’ve received to speak on panels or at events. It feels great to be sought after but there’s only so much of my time that is available!

It’s pushed me to create a framework to evaluate opportunities and effectively value when and where I spend my time. I’m sharing because I’m sure others may also be thinking about how to approach an influx of requests too.

How to think about a speaking fee package

There’s a significant amount of time and effort that goes into research and preparation on a topic or theme, creating slides or appropriate visuals and writing a speech or talking points for the panel.

Research and preparation can take anything from half a day to a week. Then on the actual day there may be travel involved and the time to deliver the talk/presentation plus answering questions that may invariably arise by interested audience members afterwards.

There’s an opportunity cost in both time and money with any decision you make so I’ve split my speaking package into three components:

  • Baseline speaking fee — what’s the minimum amount you would charge for 60–90 mins of your time on a panel or a talk and…
