I did this course in mid 2023. For a couple of years I’ve been approached by board directors regarding potential opportunities. Often their next question during the discussion was whether I had completed the Company Directors Course with the AICD.

From many of the conversations it was becoming increasingly clear that it’s a minimum requirement to seriously pursue director positions. Whilst it is significant both in terms of time and money, I found it to be excellent professional development. Perhaps you can access your learning and development budget to pay for or even partially subside the cost.

Here are the pertinent things to know before, during and after the course that I wish I knew in a bitesize manner!

Before the course

The estimated time for the pre-reading is 60 hours. I questioned whether it really would take up this much time…and I can confirm it definitely was!

The sheer amount of content is incredible, so it is imperative that you are organised and do your homework. It takes longer than you expect, especially if there is a topic that you don’t have experience or expertise in.
